Heavy haulage for construction firms and infrastructure projects
If the 60-tonne excavator is not on site in time, the entire project stops. Oversize Transports arranges heavy haulage for the construction industry with individual weights of up to 200 tonnes – across the EU and via our own corridors to Turkey, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Construction companies, crane operators and project developers receive a fully planned door-to-door solution: from the feasibility study through permits and escort vehicles to delivery within the agreed time slot. Whether it is relocating a single machine between two sites or delivering precast units in series to the site schedule – we plan the transport so that your crew and crane slots hold.
Typical construction loads
- Construction plant: crawler excavators, wheel loaders, bulldozers, drilling and piling rigs – driven onto the trailer via ramps
- Crane equipment: crawler crane components, ballast slabs, boom sections, tower crane elements
- Bridge and steel construction: girders, composite elements and oversize steel structures
- Precast concrete: beams, wall panels, segments for civil engineering structures
- Tunnelling: tunnel boring machine components, cutter heads, back-up gantry elements
- Site facilities: containers, mixing plants, silos, site power equipment
Process: feasibility, permit, transport
It begins with the feasibility study: we check dimensions and weights against bridge load ratings, headroom, roundabouts and the site access – including manoeuvring areas and ground conditions at the unloading point. On this basis you receive a fixed-price quote that already includes all permits, escort vehicles and ancillary services.
We then take over permit management: in Germany the authorisation under German road traffic regulations (StVO §29), and along international routes the respective equivalents in the transit countries. Depending on the conditions imposed, we provide BF3 or BF4 escort vehicles, agree night-driving windows and, where prescribed, organise the police escort.
During transport, a dedicated project manager runs the shipment, coordinates the crane and unloading on site and is available around the clock – decisive when road closure windows, concreting dates or crane slots have to be met exactly.
Equipment for site logistics
Depending on the load we use low-loaders with ramps for self-propelled machines, semi low-loaders for tall components or modular trailers for the heaviest single pieces. Attachments such as booms, counterweights or buckets are dispatched as part loads or on separate vehicles so that the machine is ready for work at destination without waiting time. Crane and loading coordination at both the loading and the unloading point is part of the scope of services.
Meeting deadlines in the construction programme
In a construction programme, crews, cranes and liquidated damages often hang on a single heavy haulage movement. That is why we plan backwards from the date on site: when does the machine have to work, when does the crane slot open, which closure windows apply – from this we derive the loading day, the driving window and the buffer times. Night-driving conditions, public holiday driving bans and weather-related restrictions are factored in from the outset instead of being discovered en route. Your site management receives fixed reporting points: loading completed, stage reached, arrival confirmed – without chasing us by phone.
For construction companies and rental fleets with ongoing relocation needs, we also dispatch recurring machine movements between sites and rental depots – with known machine data, established procedures and short response times. Particularly when replacement plant is needed at short notice after a breakdown, what counts is that permit procedures and vehicle dispatch do not start from zero but build on an existing route and data base.
Building internationally – from the EU to Central Asia
For construction projects outside the EU we handle the complete customs and transit process with T1 or TIR procedures; for construction plant deployed only temporarily, the ATA carnet is an option that considerably simplifies re-importation. Towards the Caucasus and Central Asia we run via the Middle Corridor (Turkey–Georgia–Caspian Sea), which completely avoids the sanction-affected routes through Russia and Belarus. We check the sanctions and permit situation before every shipment so that your machine does not stand at a border while the site waits. That keeps heavy haulage what it should be in a construction programme: a plannable date, not a risk.
