What does a heavy haulage transport cost?

At a glance

A heavy haulage transport has no list price. The price results from dimensions, weight, route, permits, escort vehicles and customs. We check your project free of charge and then quote a binding fixed price – no off-the-shelf per-kilometre rate.

What determines the price

Instead of a flat rate we calculate every transport individually. These factors determine the price:

The key cost factors in heavy haulage and abnormal load transport.
FactorWhy it influences the price
Dimensions & weightdetermine the vehicle type, the number of axles and whether oversize/overweight conditions apply
Route & bottlenecksbridge loads, clearance heights and detours can rule out the shortest route
PermitsStVO §29 procedures per country, lead times and conditions (VEMAGS) drive time and cost
Escort vehiclesBF3/BF4 or police escort as stated in the permit – depending on how far the limits are exceeded
Customs & transiton non-EU routes T1/TIR, border clearance and, where applicable, the Caspian ferry
Time windowsnight runs, road closures and tight deadlines increase the coordination effort
Crane & handlingloading, crane positioning and supporting structures for particularly heavy packages

Why a fixed price after the study – and no off-the-shelf rate

Because these factors vary so much from project to project, a flat rate would not be serious. We do it the other way round: first the feasibility study – route, dimensions, permit situation and vehicle concept – then a binding fixed price with no hidden extras. That way you know exactly where you stand before placing the order.

What we need for a quote

For a quick calculation the following is enough: collection and delivery point, weight, dimensions (L×W×H), type of load and your preferred date. Details on permits can be found in our guide to heavy haulage permits.
