How does a heavy transport from Poland to Tashkent work?
A heavy transport from Poland to Tashkent is one of the longest overland lanes there is. The routing decision is critical: instead of the shorter but closed route via Russia and Belarus, the workable corridor runs consistently south along the Middle Corridor – via the Balkans and Turkey to Georgia, on to Baku, by Caspian ferry to Aktau and then straight across Kazakhstan to the Uzbek border and on to Tashkent. The total distance is around 6,500 km; the transit time clearly runs to several weeks.

Why the southern route instead of Russia?
The direct eastern route via Russia and Kazakhstan is effectively unavailable for European heavy transports. The Middle Corridor bypasses Russia entirely and opens up Central Asia via Turkey, the Caucasus and the Caspian ferry. This southern corridor is longer and more demanding, but it is the reliable alternative for abnormal loads to Uzbekistan.
Permits from Poland – no German §29 section
Because the route from Poland runs south via Slovakia or Hungary and the Balkans and does not touch Germany, the German §29 StVO procedure (German road traffic regulations) does not apply. The chain begins with the Polish special permit, followed by the national permits of the Balkan transit countries, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In Central Asia, axle loads, bridge capacities and partly poorly developed road sections are the critical factors.
Caspian ferry and customs clearance
The maritime leg from Baku to Aktau is the most sensitive part of the chain. As the ferry sails on demand, ferry windows, weather and clearance for heavy items must be settled early; we build in time buffers so that the subsequent permit windows in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan can be met. For the long chain of non-EU borders, the TIR carnet is the instrument of choice, supplemented by T1 from the external EU border. The consignment remains under customs seal; import clearance takes place in Uzbekistan.
Equipment selection, load securing, escorting
Robust low-bed and modular axle systems are used for the long and partly rough sections – our equipment overview shows which unit fits. Loads are secured by positive and friction locking in line with recognised engineering standards, with additional securing for the ferry crossing. Depending on the excess dimensions, escort vehicles up to BF3/BF4 escort and country-specific official escorts complete the transport.
