Service area North Rhine-Westphalia
Hardly any region in Europe generates as much heavy cargo as North Rhine-Westphalia: steel and chemical sites, mechanical engineering, power technology and the dense plant engineering industry along the Rhine and the Ruhr. Oversize Transports serves NRW as an established service area – without a branch of our own, but with well-practised processes, surveyed routes and short response times. From NRW we plan and move heavy and abnormal load transports with individual weights of up to 200 tonnes: within the region, throughout Germany, EU-wide and via our own corridors to Turkey, the Caucasus and Central Asia. German availability is provided through a +49 30 telephone number, and your project is handled throughout by a personal contact.
Why the Ruhr region as a point of origin
NRW is both a transport hub and an industrial location. The A1, A2, A3, A40 and A57 motorways provide fast connections to the conurbation, the inland ports and the Dutch seaports – ideal for consolidating project cargo and putting it onto the major west-east axes. Typical cargo from NRW includes presses and machine tools, transformers and generators, boiler and apparatus construction, steel structures and construction machinery. For loading we use low-loaders, semi-low-loaders or modular trailers depending on the cargo, and coordinate cranes and handling at both ends.
The process from NRW: feasibility, permit, transport
It starts with the feasibility study: we match dimensions and weights against the route – including bridge capacities, clearance heights and the narrow works access that is the rule rather than the exception at long-established NRW sites. You then receive a fixed-price quotation. We handle permit management under StVO §29 in full, including liaison with the regional authorities (Bezirksregierungen) and motorway offices as well as the prescribed BF3/BF4 escort vehicles. For the heavy haulage itself, a project manager steers loading, driving windows and unloading and remains reachable around the clock.
Connection to corridors and routes
From NRW our consignments feed seamlessly onto the international axes. For destinations east of the EU we use the Middle Corridor via Turkey, Georgia and the Caspian Sea – the sanctions-free alternative to routes via Russia and Belarus. Our routes overview shows which one comes into question for your project. Within Europe we move NRW cargo to the Benelux countries, Scandinavia, and Southern and Eastern Europe; for overseas project cargo we connect to the North Sea ports. We handle customs and transit clearance by T1 or TIR throughout, and use the ATA Carnet for temporary export.
Inland ports and combined transport
One locational advantage of NRW is its high-capacity inland ports on the Rhine and the canals – Duisburg is the largest inland port in Europe. For particularly heavy or bulky single items we examine combined road-water transport: where a pure road route fails on bridge capacities or clearance heights, a pre-carriage leg by inland vessel can bridge the critical section before the road transport takes over. We cost this option into the feasibility study and propose it where it noticeably reduces time, cost or permit effort. That keeps cargo transportable that would reach its limits on the road alone – an advantage that the region's heavy plant and apparatus engineering sector in particular makes regular use of.
For existing customers with ongoing transport requirements – machine builders with regular exports, for example, or plant builders with project series – we dispatch recurring services on a known route and data basis. That shortens lead times and makes even short-notice replacement deliveries from NRW plannable, instead of starting from scratch with every order. A personal project manager coordinates permits, vehicle dispatch and crane provision centrally – you have one point of contact for the entire chain.
